Meet Dr. Allie King, LMFT
My Professional Background
As a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in California (License #150007, under the name Ashley King), my work is grounded in both empirical research and clinical experience. I hold a master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from the University of San Diego and a Ph.D. in Marriage and Family Therapy from Virginia Tech. I have published research in the areas of eating disorders, family systems, and attachment theory.
My clinical experience spans from outpatient therapy to higher level of care programs where I have supported individuals struggling with eating disorders, depression, anxiety, and trauma. I have worked in family therapy clinics and have contributed to clinical research studies providing family therapy for adolescents and their caregivers. I am a certified Attachment-Based Family Therapy (ABFT) therapist and supervise other therapists in the treatment modality.
Alongside my clinical practice, I am an adjunct professor at the University of San Diego, where I teach family therapy courses and mentor future clinicians.
Outside the Therapy Office
I was born and raised in California. After spending a few years on the East Coast, I returned to California in 2022 and now call San Diego home. When I’m not working, you can usually find me playing with my goldendoodle, Huckleberry, walking along the beach, or getting lost in a new audiobook.
